"Integrating evolutionary science into medical education"
Mark Schwartz
New York University

When medical students are stimulated to engage with evolutionary medicine questions, they are fascinated and hungry to learn more. However, opportunities are limited for deeper learning of how evolutionary science applies to health and disease. Few medical schools have enough faculty with evolution expertise to develop and provide this curriculum. The National Evolution Synthesis Center (NESCent) funded a group of scientists, physicians, and educators to develop strategies to infuse medical education with evolutionary thinking. In this Discussion we will review key findings and lessons from this group, and engage participants in implementing and expanding these strategies.
